Cheema Slams PM Modi Over Rising Fuel Prices

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema launched a sharp political attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi while criticizing the recent rise in fuel prices and accusing the central government of focusing more on image building than public relief.

Cheema used the phrase Melody toffee diplomacy to mock what he described as symbolic political gestures that fail to address the financial burden faced by ordinary citizens. His remarks came during a discussion on inflation and the rising cost of petrol and diesel which continue to affect transportation household budgets and small businesses across the country.

The Punjab minister claimed that despite promises of economic relief people are still struggling with expensive fuel and daily essentials. He argued that higher fuel prices have triggered a chain reaction leading to increased prices of food transportation and other services.

Cheema also accused the central government of prioritizing publicity campaigns over practical economic measures. According to him citizens expect concrete solutions such as fuel tax reductions and inflation control rather than political messaging.

The comments have intensified the ongoing political battle between the ruling government at the Centre and opposition leaders ahead of upcoming electoral contests. Supporters of the BJP defended the government saying global crude oil volatility and international economic pressures have influenced fuel pricing decisions.

Fuel prices remain a politically sensitive issue in India because even small increases directly impact millions of consumers. Opposition parties across several states have repeatedly demanded lower taxes on petrol and diesel to provide relief to the middle class and working population.

The latest remarks by Cheema have once again brought inflation and fuel costs into the national political spotlight with both sides continuing to trade accusations over economic management and public welfare.
